We Do Not Walk Alone - Letter from the Rector

It’s been a rather challenging 2 months, hasn’t it? So many people affected by Hurricane Harvey, friends and loved ones affected by Hurricane Irma and Maria, several sick and hurts in the congregation, school being out for 2 weeks, the church in a perpetual state of construction/remodel.

I’ve said to myself and others on one more than one occasion that it’s enough!

And it is… it is enough. What some have been through in a matter of weeks takes a lifetime for others to experience. Yet, there is something else that’s enough, something more powerful than the heartache of the last several weeks, something stronger than any trial or tribulation that can ever be imagined.

“Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

It’s a powerful word from St. Paul, and an even more powerful reminder that we do not walk alone. Brothers and sisters, I can’t say it enough… WE DO NOT WALK ALONE! We are so blessed, even in our weakness, that God’s grace is more than enough. His faithfulness endures and sustains every single day.

It reminds me of the song “Trading My Sorrows”, by Delirious, and one verse in particular:

“I am pressed but not crushed Persecuted but not abandoned Struck down, but not destroyed I am blessed beyond the curse For His promise will endure And His joy will be my strength”
